Congratulations to Clients Accepted to Brown PLME – Our Acceptance Results 2023

I am very pleased and happy to announce our final results for Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME): 9 of our clients were accepted to Brown PLME.

According to Brown University’s press release on March 31st, “..74 students were admitted to the Program in Liberal Medical Education an eight-year program leading to both a bachelor’s degree and an M.D. from Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School.”

What does this mean?

Proactive Parents Are Calling Us as More Public High Schools Cancel Honors Courses

Over the past several months, we have had an increase in the number of calls and emails from parents whose children attend high schools that stripping away the honors designation from courses or removing the courses all together.

Parents have stated to us that some schools have either changed courses to college prep or simply eliminated the honors courses all together.

In our experience, taking honors courses can increase class ranks or grade point averages and/or give students an advantage when applying for college.

Getting into an Ivy League and or BS/MD programs has never seemed more impossible, with acceptance rates at some colleges now in the single digits. Thousands of qualified students are rejected after years of hard work. Dr. Lowe through his Continuous Weekly Student-Parent Skype Meetings to help students honestly assess their strength to get into these schools, where admissions officers often make split-second decisions, based minute details in an applicant’s profile.

I am writing this blog because many parents contact us about Brown PLME. Many parents are aware that Brown PLME is one of the top direct BS/MD programs if not THE top BS/MD program. We find that many students, after visiting several direct BS/MD programs, remark that “Brown PLME is where they want to be”. Immigration Policy Effect: International and H4 Applicants to BS/MD Programs

Changes in U.S immigration policy have a direct effect on students who are applying to BS/MD programs, for example, as a result of delays in issuance of Green Cards (also called Permanent Resident Cards). If their parent’s Green Card doesn’t come through before they turn 21, they “age out.” They then have switch to student or work visas to remain in the U.S. or face deportation. Delays in visa status can result in clouds of uncertainty. We work with many students whose parents are professionals who are highly skilled and come to the US mainly on the H-1B work visas who covet a Green Card or permanent legal residency.

We have worked with students who, because of delays in parent Green card approval, had to indicate that they were international students on their college applications, therefore limiting the number of BS/MD schools to which they could apply and disqualifying them from financial aid. Fortunately, over the years, many were admitted to several BS/MD programs, including but not limited to: Brown University Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME), Boston University Seven-Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program and Case Western Reserve University Pre-Professional Scholars Program in Medicine.

Last year was one of the most competitive years in college admissions history. COVID-19 caused disruption and uncertainty in college admissions.
