Congratulations to Clients Accepted to Brown PLME – Our Acceptance Results 2023

I am very pleased and happy to announce our final results for Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME): 9 of our clients were accepted to Brown PLME.

According to Brown University’s press release on March 31st, “..74 students were admitted to the Program in Liberal Medical Education an eight-year program leading to both a bachelor’s degree and an M.D. from Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School.”

CONGRATULATIONS to our client who was accepted to Texas Tech’s UMSI program. You are among the 8 students who were accepted to this highly competitive BS/MD program!

The Undergraduate to Medical School Initiative (UMSI) is a combined BS/MD program: Honors College of Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine offer designed for academically talented and highly motivated students interested in pursuing a M.D. degree. A select group of Honors College students entering first year are guaranteed admission to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine after completion of a bachelor’s degree at Texas Tech University.

Out of over 300 applicants, between 30-50 are interviewed and then finally 8 are ACCEPTED. That’s a 2.6% acceptance rate! Our client can technically be called “DOCTOR” as a high school senior! Wow!

Proactive Parents Are Calling Us as More Public High Schools Cancel Honors Courses

Over the past several months, we have had an increase in the number of calls and emails from parents whose children attend high schools that stripping away the honors designation from courses or removing the courses all together.

Parents have stated to us that some schools have either changed courses to college prep or simply eliminated the honors courses all together.

In our experience, taking honors courses can increase class ranks or grade point averages and/or give students an advantage when applying for college. 

Getting into an Ivy League and or BS/MD programs has never seemed more impossible, with acceptance rates at some colleges now in the single digits. Thousands of qualified students are rejected after years of hard work. Job Layoffs and Its Effect BS/MD Applications

Over the last several months, we have been hearing about planned job cuts:

  • Google parent Alpha announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs.
  • Facebook parent Meta Platform announced plans to cut 11,000 jobs.
  • Amazon announced plans cut 18,000 jobs.
  • Salesforce announced plans to cut 8,000 jobs.
  • Disney announced plans to cut 7,000 jobs.
  • IBM announced plans to cut 3,900 jobs.
  • 3M announced plans to cut 3,500 jobs.
  • SAP announced plans to cut 3,000 jobs.
  • Dow announced plans to cut 2,000 jobs.
  • News Corp. announced plans to cut 1,250 jobs
  • BlackRock Inc. to cut 500 global jobs.
  • Banks including Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Bank of New York Mellon have begun to cut more than 15,000 jobs in recent months.

The alarming increase in job losses across these sectors has caused uncertainty and unpredictability. What we are seeing is an increased in number of parents calling our offices regarding interest in BS/MD programs.

Why is there an increased interest and why do we expect an increase in applications to BS/MD programs? Here are several reasons:

  • Job Stability: In the case of job layoffs the pertinent reason to choose a career in Medicine is the job stability you will enjoy after graduation.
  • Doctors are high in demand: Doctors do not have to worry about a lack of demand for their expertise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for nurses and doctors/physicians is expected to grow between 7-12% by 2028.
  • Compensation: Physicians are among the most generously compensated members of the workforce. In fact, you’ll see quite a few physician specialists among the top 20 highest-paying occupations identified by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.
  • Citizenship: For international and H-4 visa students, it’s one of the fastest ways to attain U.S. citizenship because the high demand and need for doctors.

Congratulations to Clients: UPITTS GAP and AMC Supplementals

It’s that time of the year when BS/MD applicants are waiting to see if they will be eligible to receive supplemental applications from BS/MD programs as an additional step during the application process. After the initial review of their Common Application submitted, a limited number of students are selected to continue in the process by the corresponding medical schools in these direct BS/MD programs. Those selected will be asked to submit a supplemental application in support of their candidacy.

Our homeschooler clients are admitted to Ivy League and highly selective colleges and universities and BS/MD programs because we encourage them to present clear documentation of their learning and unique experiences.
